WILDERNESS ADVENTURE PRESS MAPS: WASHINGTON HOH & BOGACHIEL RIVERS Hoh RiverWashingtons Hoh River is a big, beautiful stream that offers steelhead, chinook salmon and sea-run cutthroat trout.Despite lower numbers of sea-runners in recent years, the fishing is still good and the fish are as big as ever, including some over 30 pounds.Steelies are present in both winter and summer and are common between 15 and 20 pounds. Many of them are hatchery-bred, however (hatchery steelhead may be kept during certain seasons refer to regulations brochure).Wade fishing is possible, but boat fishing is often more convenient and offers more accessibility. The water is often off color, so a little flash might be required to catch the fishs eyes. Standard steelhead tactics and gear should work fine.Chinook salmon show up in the spring and fall. Kings up to 40 pounds are landed, but are more common around 20 pounds. Juvenile kings up to 10 pounds are also seasonally available. Certain chinooks may be kept at certain times refer to regulations brochure. Bogachiel RiverSalmon, steelhead, and sea-run cutthroat are the main draws to the Bogachiel River. Both wading and floating are options, but boating is often the most appealing option.Good numbers of hatchery steelhead and fair numbers of wild fish are available.Spey tactics are popular here.Fall is a great time to find sea-run cutts. December through April is the best time to look for steelies, and king salmon time is autumn. The Bogey blows out easily after rain, and can remain dirty for extended periods. One wild and three hatchery steelhead may be kept per season. Hatchery salmon may be kept in certain seasons. Refer to the regulations brochure for compete details. ISBN: 0-WAP-57004-7 publish date: 07/17/2011
