Sadly, due to the depredations of man, this stirring sight is no more. Maine's little-known Ducktrap River is one of only eight rivers in the United States that still have a population of wild Atlantic salmon. In 1995 the Ducktrap Coalition was formed to protect the natural attributes of the river's watershed, resulting in the permanent conservation of 80% of the land abutting the river--an accomplishment unmatched by any coastal river of the eastern United States.Dennis C.
