HORN OF THE HUNTER: SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY EDITION Safari Press is proud to present the sixtieth anniversary edition of Horn of the Hunter. How is it possible to bring out a revised edition of a classic with the author long since dead? Read on. Harry Selby, Ruarks PH during the 1951 safari that resulted in the genesis of Horn of the Hunter, has written a new 4,400-word foreword giving his complete account of the safari. This foreword also includes Selbys experiences with Robert Ruark in the hunts they subsequently took after this initial sortie into Tanzania and Kenya. Never before have we been able to get a new perspective and interesting anecdotes on what must be one of the three most famous safaris of the twentieth century. In addition to this, Selby has agreed to make available original color and black and white photos of the 1951 safari as well as photos from subsequent Robert Ruark hunts. None of these has appeared in any previous book with this title. So now for the very first time ever in book form, we can see the golden age of the safari with the golden writer of the erain color. These were the times when a hundred-pound elephant could still be realistically expected on a twenty-eight-day safari; when black rhinos were on license; when lions could be shot in multiple numbers; and when most plains game were available anywhere from three to twelve per species per license. No other safari has received the publicity and is more talked about than this grandiose hunt of Robert Ruark and Harry Selby. This limited edition is signed by Harry Selby and will in time be equally as collectible as a 1953 first edition.Ruark's most sought-after book is back in print. In the early 1950s famous newspaper columnist Robert Ruark and his wife, Virginia, went to British East Africa (now Kenya and Tanzania) for a nine-week safari with their professional hunter, Harry Selby. The three of them, along with a group of native runners, a Jeep, and an old lorry, ventured into the bush for an adventure none of them soon forgotand neither will you! In this book Ruark shares with you the ferocity of the wounded buffalo and the acid sweat of fear--no other book will give you the "feel" of Africa like this one can.
