A GALLERY OF WATERFOWL AND UPLAND BIRDS Illustrated in color by David Maass this book was one of the few hard cover publications by Petersen Publishing, the large magazine group. A selection of paintings and stories on ruffed grouse, ducks of Hudson Bay, American woodcock, geese, ringneck pheasant, American turkey, Hungarian and chukar partridge and quail. All of it printed on extremely thick high quality acid free paper that must have cost a fortune even in 1978! There are dozens of full-page color illustrations after Maass as well as sketches in the text. All of it on extra large format pages of 11x12 inches and with hand-printed matching French marbled end papers. Gene Hill died a number of years ago and signed copies of his books are now quite expensive. David Maas was chosen as Artist of the Year for Ducks Unlimited (1974) and was elected Artist of the Year by the National Wildlife Art Collector's Society (1982).
